Greeneview Decimates Xenia

Today (Saturday, November 21, 2015) is a very special day. This afternoon, the Xenia High School (XHS) Lady Buccaneers’ Basketball Team is hosting the Greeneview High School (GHS) Rams. Some people may be thinking, “What is so special about this matchup?” That question is easy to answer. Both XHS and GHS are Greene County, Ohio High Schools. In any sport, it is always a big deal whenever Greene County’s High Schools play one another. Some of the Greene County Athletic Matchups can be really intense. Some are more serious than others. Regardless of those aspects, all of the various matchups share one, common fact. “Bragging Rights are on the line.” For a period of time, the winners can brag about their victories. They can claim to be “The Kings Or Queens Of Greene County.” After everything that I have written thus far, some of you have to be wondering about the level of the rivalry which exists between XHS and GHS. While any of the athletic matchups (between the two institutions) is serious in nature, the rivalry is not very heated & intense. For example, the rivalries which XHS has with both Beavercreek High School and Fairborn High School are extremely heated & intense. XHS DOES NOT have a Love/Hate Relationship with either school. Although some friendships/other relationships do exist, the level of disdain is high. While XHS is not playing a hated rival today, the game will still be very competitive.

Greeneview won the game’s tip-off. At 7:52, Sabrina Saunders nailed a 3-Point Basket. Exactly one minute later (6:52), the Lady Rams’ Sydnie Sonneman hit a 3-Point Basket too. Sonneman goes on to make 2-Foul Shots (6:26). Then, Xenia commits 3-Turnovers. At 5:21, a Timeout is called. GHS possesses an 8-0 lead. The Lady Buccaneers are developing a “Turnover Problem.” Also, XHS’s Defense is leaving the Lady Rams open for shooting opportunities. After the Timeout through 3:19, the game becomes TURNOVER CITY! XHS commits 4-Turnovers. GHS commits 3-Turnovers. With 3:16 remaining in the 1st Quarter, a Timeout was called. Both teams are having major trouble with Ball Handling. After the Timeout, GHS’s Faith Strickle was fouled. She successfully converted 2-Foul Shots. The Lady Rams’ lead was now 10-0.

From 3:10 to 2:06, XHS turns the ball over twice. GHS capitalized off of the Lady Buccaneers turnovers. The Lady Rams added another 4-Points to their total. The remainder of the 1st Quarter saw each team score 2-Points. At the end of the 1st Quarter, GHS led XHS 16-2. In all facets of the game, the Lady Buccaneers are struggling. At 6:48 of the 2nd Quarter, the Lady Rams’ Jenna Basinger nailed a 3-Point Basket. Soon thereafter, XHS’s Charlie Stone makes a 2-Point Basket. At the 5:51 and 5:23 marks, GHS’s Kristen Combs and Strickle both hit 3-Point Baskets. After three, consecutive turnovers (XHS-2 and GHS-1), the Lady Rams nailed another 3-Point Basket (4:19). The Lady Rams now led 29-5. From 4:01 to 3:00, the Lady Buccaneers commit 2-Turnovers. The Lady Rams commit 1-Turnover. However, XHS’s Trinity Morton manages to obtain 2-Points. During the final 2:40, GHS went on an 8-0 Scoring Run. Four players (Saunders; Olivia Maxwell; Strickle; and Sonneman) each scored 2-Points. XHS’s 2-Turnovers assisted the process. At the end of the 2nd Quarter, GHS led XHS 37-7.

For the Lady Buccaneers, everything that can go wrong has gone wrong. Nothing (whatsoever) is working. As far as the Lady Rams go, turnovers and fouls are their only issues. However, the Lady Rams’ deficiencies are not hurting the team. The Lady Rams’ use of the 3-Point Shot has been deadly! That is the main reason why GHS possesses a 30-Point Lead. As the 3rd Quarter got underway, XHS went on a 4-0 run. At 5:39, Combs ended the Lady Buccaneers’ run. She hit a 3-Point Basket. Each team went on to commit 2-Turnovers. Then, each team made 2-Foul Shots. With 3:44 remaining in the 3rd Quarter, Combs nailed another 3-Point Basket. For the Lady Rams, Combs’ conversion ended up being a part of a 6-0 run. Strickle scored 3-Points too. By the score of 50-13, GHS still led XHS.

During the remaining 2:09, XHS outscored GHS 8-2. At the end of the 3rd Quarter, GHS leads XHS 52-21. After the start of the 4th Quarter, the Lady Rams turned the ball over. From 7:35 to 5:45, the Lady Buccaneers outscored the Lady Rams 7-4. With 4:47 remaining in the game, a Timeout was called. Thus far (in the 4th Quarter), both teams have been unable to make Foul Shots. Although failing to successfully do that is not hurting GHS, it is hurting XHS. Forty seconds after the Timeout (4:07), XHS turned the ball over. From 4:02 to 3:32, GHS outscored XHS 4-3. For their respective team, Strickle and Morton each scored 3-Points. For the remainder of the game, XHS committed 5-Turnovers. GHS had 1-Turnover. The Lady Buccaneers’ Free Throw Shooting Problems continued. Strickle successfully converted the Lady Rams’ lone Foul Shot. GHS outscored XHS 7-1. By the Final Score of 67-32, GHS earned “Bragging Rights” for 1-Year!
