CSU Wins Overtime Thriller

Any aspect of life is about learning. Also, it is about practice. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. You just have to find out what exactly will work best for you and/or your particular situation. Conformity is a major aspect of life. If one is not willing to conform, that same individual will never be able to advance and prosper. No human being on earth is PERFECT! Therefore, I realize the following. Conformity is not always something that you want to do. It can be something that must be done. If you have read some of my past columns, you probably have witnessed me repeatedly say the following. “I will be the first person to admit that I am not perfect.” Within my lifetime, I have dealt with a lot of adversity. College; A Failing Marriage; Employment Searching; Automobile Deficiencies; Financial Difficulties; Death/Loss Of Close Loved Ones; Obesity; etc. all are just some of the issues which my life has struggled with. You name it, and I probably have dealt with it. Of course, Drugs; Alcohol; and Crime are issues that I have never participated in. My life has never reached that desperate and downtrodden area.

Right about now, the following question is probably on your mind. What does anything which I have spoken about have to do with SPORTS? Allow me to explain. Some of the previously-mentioned issues are still relevant in my life today. Regardless of whether or not they still exist within my life, one thing is for sure. I have learned something from each of my negative experiences. Some of what I have learned has been good, and some of what I have learned has been bad. In each of my situations, some type of conformity has existed. My life perfectly relates to THE Central State University’s Men’s Basketball Team’s 2015-2016 Season. All season long, the Marauders have struggled. As of late, the team has started to get on the right path to success. Obviously, the team has learned some from its mistakes. How do I know? On the court, the team has shown vast improvement. The team is somewhat aware of what does and does not work. The team is not perfect. It is still not without fault. For the Marauders, every day continues to be a learning experience. That will remain the case.

Today (Saturday, January 9, 2016) will be a brand-new experience. This afternoon, the Morehouse College (MC) Maroon Tigers will be visiting CSU’s Beacom-Lewis Gymnasium. Morehouse won the game’s tip-off. At 19:45, Central State’s Defense almost obtained an Interception. However, the ball just missed a defender’s hands. The Maroon Tigers soon missed a shot. With 19:18 on the clock, the Marauders made a 2-Point Basket. A short time later (18:45), CSU’s Hosie Smith, Jr. picked up 2-Points. At the 18:29 mark, MC finally got onto the scoreboard. The team nailed a 3-Point Basket. Before a Timeout at 17:35, CSU committed 1-Turnover. However, Jeremy Brown managed to make a 2-Point Basket. At 17:25, the Marauders’ Tom Johnson made a good Defensive Play. He knocked the ball away from an Offensive Player. Johnson’s play ended with CSU obtaining a Steal.

From 17:02 to 15:47, Morehouse committed 1-Turnover. Central State outscored the Maroon Tigers 6-2. At 15:39, a Media Timeout was called. Central State has come out with a lot of fire. The Marauders are playing just like they are extremely angry and/or irritated about something. This past Thursday’s loss (to Clark-Atlanta) seems to be bothering them. The pace of the game has been fast. With 15:39 on the clock, MC’s Ayinde Russell made 2-Foul Shots. The Marauders went on to outscore the Maroon Tigers 7-5. During the scoring, CSU committed 2-Turnovers. At the 11:32 mark, a Timeout was called. CSU leads MC 19-12. After seeming like they were making every shot, the Marauders are starting to miss shots. However, they are still doing what they need to do to stay ahead. It will be interesting to see if that remains the case.

Eleven seconds after the Timeout (11:21), Morehouse committed an Offensive Foul (Turnover). At 11:00, Smith made a 2-Point Basket. How would the Maroon Tigers respond? From 10:37 to 8:47, MC went on a 9-0 Scoring Run. During the run, Central State committed 2-Turnovers. The game is now tied 21-21. With 8:18 remaining in the First Half, the Marauders ended the Maroon Tigers’ run. Johnson nailed a 3-Point Basket. At the 7:49 mark, a Media Timeout was called. Morehouse has gotten the momentum on its side. At one point, they tied the game. Tom Johnson ended the tie. He nailed a 3-Point Basket. Central State has the lead back. Of course, Morehouse is nipping at the Marauders’ heels.

From 7:22 to 5:20, Morehouse committed 2-Turnovers. Central State committed 1-Turnover. The Marauders outscored the Maroon Tigers 6-2. At 5:00, Russell hit a 3-Point Basket. MC went on to commit 3-Turnovers. However, points scored were even. Each team scored 2-Points. With 2:46 remaining in the First Half, a Timeout was called. CSU leads MC 32-28. Central State is in control of the momentum again. However, the control is not firm. Morehouse is not too far behind. During the 1st Half’s final 2:33, CSU outscored MC 6-3. CSU’s Robert Konteh had 2-Hard Blocks. At the end of the First Half, Central State leads Morehouse 38-31. Can CSU keep the lead?

At Halftime, Central State has the lead. However, a good question is simply the following. Will Central State be able to maintain its lead, and properly finish the game? If that happens, Central State will win this game. In its previous Home Games, Central State has had trouble with closing out games. The Marauders would allow leads to wither away. CSU would lose control of games. The opposing teams would capitalize on those severe mistakes which the Marauders would make. As the Second Half got underway, Central State had possession of the ball. Immediately, the Marauders outscored the Maroon Tigers 10-6. Five different players (Tre’ Edwards; Robert Konteh; Tom Johnson; Hosie Smith, Jr.; and Anthony Chester each scored. Chester made a 3-Point Basket. For the Maroon Tigers, Anthony Farrar scored 4-Points. At 15:28, a Media Timeout was called. CSU leads MC 48-37. CSU is not playing today. The team has its foot all the way on the gas pedal.

Shortly after the Media Timeout (14:58), Morehouse nailed a 3-Point Basket. Central State went on to commit 2-Turnovers. The Maroon Tigers committed 1-Turnover. Scoring was fairly close. MC outscored the Marauders 5-4. Javarius Gay hit a 3-Point Basket. At 11:15, a Timeout was called. CSU led MC 52-45. After the Timeout, the Maroon Tigers went on an 8-0 Scoring Run. Michael Scott nailed two, consecutive 3-Point Baskets. MC now possessed a 1-Point Lead (53-52). The Maroon Tigers’ lead lasted 10-Seconds. At 9:10, Chester made a 3-Point Basket. 1:10 later (8:00), Edwards made 2-Foul Shots. Before a Timeout at 7:26, MC’s Michael Hall made a 2-Point Basket. MC trails CSU 57-55.

After the latest Timeout, Central State’s Sean Cassidy, Jr. made 1-Foul Shot. Then, Morehouse’s Tyrone Brown completed a 3-Point Play. Going into a Timeout (5:46), the game is tied 58-58. From 5:32 to 3:46, each team committed 1-Turnover. Scoring was close. The Maroon Tigers outscored the Marauders 5-4. With 3:46 remaining in the game, a Timeout was called. MC possessed a 1-Point Lead (63-62). After the Timeout, CSU went on to outscore MC 6-4. The Marauders’ Dymiere Finch scored 3-Points. With 36.0 Seconds remaining in the game, a Full Timeout was called.  Eight seconds after the Timeout (28.0), the Maroon Tigers turned the ball over (Lane Violation). At 22.9 Seconds, CSU’s Sterling Gilmore made 2-Foul Shots. At the 12.6 Seconds mark, MC’s Michael Scott nailed a 3-Point Basket. His big conversion tied the game 70-70. At the end of Regulation Play, the game was still tied 70-70. The game is headed to Overtime Play.

Central State University won the Overtime Tip-Off. Each team went on to commit 1-Turnover. Then, Central State flexed its muscles. From 4:01 to 2:25, CSU went on a 6-0 Scoring Run. With 1:50 remaining in Overtime, a Timeout was called. The Marauders possessed a 4-Point Lead (77-73). After the Timeout, CSU’s Tom Johnson outscored Morehouse College 4-0. At 57.0 Seconds, Morehouse’s Robert Askew made 2-Foul Shots. At the 55.6 mark, CSU’s Sterling Gilmore made 2-Foul Shots. MC’s Anthony Farrar comes right back, and he nails a 3-Point Basket. After Gilmore makes 1-Foul Shot, the Maroon Tigers’ Ayinde Russell hit a 3-Point Basket. During the final 39.1 Seconds of Overtime, CSU went on a 4-0 run. Finally, the game came to a conclusion. No more play would be needed. At the end of an extremely hard-fought game, Central State arose victoriously. The game’s Final Score was 88-81.
